Encouragement and reflection on my own personality

In Roman1:12, Paul talks about mutually encouraged by each other faith.
Indeed, i can be lead my people of greater faith.

Whereas, in study context, I can also be encouraged by my friends in terms of my study. That is when I realize that there are things that I am supposed to be doing but have not done be done yet,I will have a tendency and drive to want to do it.

There is a tendency to always want to do a lot of things and want to achieve things. However, time is a resources given by God. I have to budget my time wisely and be used by God accordingly. There is a season for everything.

Teachers should be facilitators of knowledge and resources.

Today in class, i think that I wasn’t very participatory and i think it was because I wasn’t too sure if my answers are right or not.

Response: Do not be afraid to give the wrong answer as I would have participated in the lessons and have learnt something out of it.
I can also be more prepared for the lessons by reading up on the required readings.

Motivation to talk in Class. I need to be driven by a sense of need. Certain level of arousal is necessary. Personally, I talk more when nobody is talking as I sense a need.
I also need to challenge myself to speak up in every lessons and give my opinions should there be any.

Motivation

First and Foremost, Happy anniversary dear!! I win again as usual!!!

Interestingly, a few friends of mine have been saying that I look tired recently. Indeed, partially I believe it could be the dark eye rings that have formed around my eyes. Hee.. I am now trying to get rid of it.

Secondly, I think the reason behind might be motivation at play. Indeed I think I do need to achieve things. I think life can be quite boring if I don’t achieve anything. Interestingly I am supposed to write an article on motivation and I have not start on it yet.

Indeed, it seems, even though I am supposed to be freer than Yenleng, but I believe she is coping quite well in school. I hope u are! =>
For me, I can sense the stress creeping in. Hehee. I believe this kind of stress is self- given.

Actually, I kind of realize that my weekend is always fully packed and most of my week days are fully packed with activities as well.

On one hand, I feel very bored and I think I need to do something challenging and on the other hand, I feel tired, which I don’t really know why.

Anyone can tell me y? Have I lost the drive?
I want the motivating Qinlong to be back!! Motivated to study and motivated to do all things under the sun

How to be a better teacher (1)

How do I be a better teacher?

“A life unexamined is not worth living” – Socrates
There is some truth in his words of wisdom.

First and foremost: "Trust God in everything I do. Remember my purpose of teaching".

In additional: Things I learn from my Maths tutorial yesterday

1. Clarify the concepts, and allow the students to have relational learning.
2. When the student asks a question, we can always answer their qns with questions.
The aim is to allow the students to understand the concepts internally. Try not to answer the qns directly but elicit their response and let them understand better
3. Asking qns to elicit response and to check understanding. (from 2)
4. There are many different methods of solving questions

Intrapersonal Skills vs Interpersonal Skills

I think a lot of things have been happening in my life. This seems to be a season of understanding my own strengths and weaknesses even better.

Thanks be to God who always lead us to triumphal processions.

On Tuesday, Yating and me went to Changi Airport to meet up with the Marriage Preparation Course Counselor. We are quite amazed that they are able to understand us so well just by doing the personality test for them.

I am described as a “likely motivator who is usually encouraging, motivation of others and cares about people. Generally sociable, approachable, diligent and take effort to communicate with others. Modest, unassuming, good listener, calm and quiet, good problem solving skills, weighs pros & cons, steadfast and persistent and determined and enthusiastic to complete projects.”

On the other hand, my communication weaknesses is that, I can be discouraged by people and I tend to equate failure with rejection. At times I can be rigid and inflexible and I am not inclined to act when unsure.

Indeed, it is true. There is a tendency to equate the rejection of people as failing in my task. It can be discouraging at times.

Another reflection is that: “ All along, I have always pride myself as someone who can empathize with the feelings of others. Yet I realize that my communication pattern doesn’t seem to pick that up at times. Indeed, I know that I am stronger on intra-personal skills, but I do not wish to be just sensitive to my own feelings but also to the feelings of my friends. Indeed, I want to be able to excel even in my inter-personal skills and be able to communicate in a way that brings out the best in my friends.”

Indeed, the law of the bible can be sum up in this verse : “ Love your neighbour like yourself”. Gal 5:14

Indeed, I think, it is easy to love yourself. How about loving others? It definitely takes a lot of patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness and self-control.
These are the fruits of the spirits that I have to further developed and I would love to develop my inter-personal skills to make myself stronger in loving my neighbor like myself.

May I be changed from the inside out and that God is able to use me to transform the lives of many.

Depicts Yt's feeling due to MPC... due to some reasons

3rd MPC session

Take-away from MPC

1) Communication and constructive feedbacks
That we should communicate and identify the main issue at hand. The Gist is not to be a problem solver but really to pay attention to the feeling of the wife/girlfriend and able to let her express her viewpoints.

Indeed, being a man means able to take charge of the situations and know when to step back and listen to the emotions at hand giving space for your partner to express her viewpoints. On the other hand, I should not suppress my feelings but should be able to strike a balance. To be able to know when to say what in order to build a healthier relationship that focuses on Win-Win.

2) Participating in Public Speaking

I realized that when I have fervor for a particular subject matter, there is a tendency to be enthusiastic and it seems to be very easy to talk about it. Public Speaking becomes an easy thing. I should be more exposed to different fields and cultivate a habit of public speaking.

3) Learning Haphazardly

Indeed, in order for learning not to be haphazard, there is a need to sum up the main points and teachers should play a role to connect all the ideas together. From a student point of view, there is a tendency to have information overload if this is not done properly. Think of the 3 main points that the student can take away with.

Greatness and purpose driven life

Greatness
1) Fallacy to be thinking that we would definitely win
We can think, dream and do the things that we love to do but it does not ensure that we would definitely win. Human beings have a tendency to compare our lives against others. Other costume against others. Uniqueness in the perception of the eyes of our own group does not ensure that we would definitely win. Perhaps it is an internal bias.

2) Purpose-driven life

After days of hard work in making the Lion-costume, spending at least 100hrs of man hours, $95 and effort, it translates into a 20 Sec of fame on stage. In 5 mins, the costume is thrown away into the waste paper basket. What we have done so far, is it worth it? What is the purpose of things? Indeed life on earth is parallel to the 20 secs on stage. It is short, similar to the 20 secs on stage, one day, we will die and we would be wasted. It is about how we live and love in this life of ours that would matters.

NIE experience + MPC- unexpected communication

NIE life on campus
NIE experience have been good thus far, even though I have a few free days, I know that I have been packing my days with meaningful activities and doing the things that I valued and deemed as important to me

Meet up with Yenleng last Thursday for lunch. I finally understand how she feels and what she meant by a packed timetable. Indeed, her days are packed from Monday till Friday with many many lessons in between. I told her that, after looking at her timetable I feel like a slacker! =>

MPC
Went for Marriage Preparation Course (MPC) with Ms Teo Yat. This is our second lesson for MPC. There would be three more to go.

I believe MPC sets the tone of a marriage and allow us to picture vividly what a marriage entails. It opens up my eyes on things that I have not tot about and sets me thinking. For e.g on the unexpected expectations of your partner. Sometimes, when you are with a person for a few years, there is a tendency to expect a certain things from your partner and u think that she knows but in fact she doesn’t.

For e.g. Miss teo’s expectation is that I will come back home for dinner a few times during weekdays. If she didn’t tell me this is her expectation, and she thinks I know, then there would be a communication breakdown.

I am indeed thankful for the Marriage Preparation Course. I think it is excellent way to build a strong marriage.

Further examples of Unexpected communication
Just want to share my second week of NIE experience.
I helped my school teachers to mark the economics common test script on Sat, Sun and Mon. As I was rushing the scripts on Sunday night and Monday morning @ 6 am, I finally manage to finish marking. But as a consequence I was late for my first tutorial which happens to start at 8.30am

I looked at my watch, it is already 8.30 and I have just reach NTU bus stop. Doubling my steps, and taking a deep long breath, I overtake almost all the people who was initially ahead of me. Finally I, manage to reach the classroom at 8.35.
Yeah yeah!!

As I turn the knob of the door to the classroom, I realized that it was locked!!!
Internal tots: *Is this for real*??

Definitely I couldn’t believe myself and the current situation and I tried one more time.

Using a bit more strength, I try turning the door knob one more time. It was really locked!!
I can’t believe my eyes! For the past 25 years, I have been faithfully attending lessons, and I have never been locked out of the classroom before!
As I looked helplessly into the small window of the door, I could see most of my classmates were seated down in their own seats. Clearly, the teacher have indicated to the student to lock the room.

After some appealing for help to open the door via the emotions that I project from my 2 eyes, John, who was seated nearest to the door open the door and finally let me in.

As I move towards the left front row and sat down. I was feeling indeed very frustrated and upset that I was actually locked out of class. I feel that I have a valid reason for being late as i was late for 5 mins due to the fact that I was marking some common test scripts for a school.

Secondly, it was not even communicated before that the door of the classroom will be locked if we are late. So I feel that the punishment was a bit unfair to me.

As my feelings and emotions overwhelmed me, I suddenly have the desire to leave the classroom. For I feel that, if the teacher did not respect me as a student-teacher, I cant have any respect for her as well. This is because, I feel that respect should be earned.

I visualize myself standing up, turning 180 degrees, walking straight to the door of the classroom and walking off. Such was the extent of my unhappiness. However, with due respect, as MOE is paying for my school fees, and I am accountable to MOE and taxpayer money, and accountable to my future, I didn’t do so.

Therefore, I just sat at the front row of the classroom, and the next 15 mins, I know that I wasn’t even paying attention to it. Though the classroom were lively and active, which would make it a safe environment, in which I would usually participate and respond, I couldn’t. I was not even interested in any of the materials taught.

But the breakpoint came when the teacher finally look at me and ask, how do I feel when I was locked out of the door.

Wow… it was a relief to share!! I told her and the whole class exactly how I feel. Positive and negative feeling. Positive because I know that I was late and it was wrong for me to be late. Negative because, this was an unexpected communication and she didn’t communicate to us before hand that we would be locked out of the classroom if we are late.

Until here, the teacher responded that this was a structured experience to indicate that we should always set clear guidelines and rules to make sure that our tots are clearly communicated to the students. If it was not communicated, the students will be confused and upset. (exactly how I feel)

Well… I learnt the importance of communication and the role of a teacher, the hard way.
